This workshop will focus on the nature and purpose of appraisal and how appraisal links directly to revalidation. Delegates will have the chance to identify what supporting information and evidence is required for appraisal and will have the opportunity to practise appraisal skills.

Attendees will also analyse and develop effective strategies for challenges which may present during appraisal.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • the nature and purpose of appraisal
  • Good Medical Practice Framework for appraisal
  • the changing role of appraisal and how this links directly to revalidation
  • specialty-specific frameworks for revalidation
  • the supporting information needed for appraisal
  • the skills required by appraisers and the structure of the appraisal meeting
  • the appraisal meeting and the Personal Development Plan.
