About the course
This 2-day workshop will introduce you to the concepts of leadership required by the Doctors in Training (DiTs) as they progress through their specialty training. In May 2017 the General Medical Council published its ‘Generic professional capabilities framework’ and emphasises that to achieve a UK certificate of completion of training (CCT), doctors must demonstrate an ‘appropriate and mature professional identity appropriate to their level of seniority’.
In response to this requirement, NHS England (NHSE) offers you, as a trainer, an opportunity to attend a 2-day workshop which primarily covers competencies required in Domain 5 – ‘Capabilities in leadership and team working’. The workshops aim to broaden your own knowledge as well as help you to understand how you can help your DiTs to develop their own leadership. The workshops will be delivered by expert academics and practitioners in the field.
You will cover:
-
Background and context to management, leadership and their place in your clinical world
-
What is leadership and what is management?
-
Personal leadership and how to master it
-
Teams, team development and the leader’s role
-
Political awareness: the structure of the NHS & where money comes from
-
Problem solving and leading through change
