Overview:

This workshop will explore patient safety and human factors covering advanced domains within the new Patient Safety Syllabus. No prior knowledge of safety science, human factors and non-technical skills is required. You will learn how key system and human factors principles inform a human factors proactive system review alongside gaining and insight into the difference and use of several human factor’s methods. You will also gain knowledge of how to plan and apply human factors methods to consider a healthcare safety issue.

Content:

  1. Error in medicine and how to approach it
  2. Introduction to PSIRF and the new safety framework
  3. How to make an incident (SI) investigation worthwhile and effect change
  4. Fundamentals of human factors and systems thinking
  5. System I and System II learning
  6. Importance of culture and our responsibilities in establishing and maintaining
  7. Supporting trainees by understanding a model for error and implementation of HF methodologies

Audience:

Associate Dean Secondary Care, Associate DME, College/Specialty Tutor, Deputy Dean, DME, Educational/Clinical Supervisor Secondary Care, HoS, SAS Doctor (Associate Specialist, Specialist, Speciality Doctor, Staff Grade, Tutor), or TPD Secondary Care
