Health Education England is hosting a conference to showcase human factors, patient safety and simulation initiatives across the south west. It is suitable for all healthcare professionals engaged with Patient safety, Quality Improvement, healthcare education and training. It will be a valuable resource for anyone wishing to improve quality of care and services within their own organisation.

 

During the past 12 months HEE has invested in trusts across the south west to enable the development of human factors training using simulation-based education to support safer practice within healthcare.  This has included funding of 16 Human Factors and Patient Safety Fellows to implement simulation educational techniques and other related approaches to improve service quality with staff.

Key Speakers:

Professor Bryn Baxendale - A Consultant Anaesthetist and Director of the Trent Simulation & Clinical Skills Centre at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.  In 2009 he was appointed as an Honorary Professor of Clinical Simulation at the School of Psychology, University of Nottingham.  He is Immediate Past President of the Association of Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH), and currently co-chairs the ASPiH Special Interest Group in Human Factors and Ergonomics.  He has national roles with Health Education England and the Royal College of Anaesthetists related to the quality assurance and evaluation of simulation-based education and innovative learning technologies within healthcare.  He is interested particularly in the application of innovative educational programmes at an organisational or system level to patient safety improvement, Human Factors, and team training in healthcare.

 

Ray Lemin - I have worked in the power generation industry all my working career having joined as an engineering apprentice from school. For my generation the way to university qualifications while being payed! I moved to the nuclear side in1989 as a reactor desk driver later transferring to training, to head the Oldbury reactor simulator section. After a period at corporate headquarters in operational standards and part time secondment to the EU working in former soviet block countries assisting in simulator training, I moved to Wano (world association of nuclear operators)in Paris as head of operating experience. The OE section provides assistance to sites in event analysis, investigation reporting and acts as a coordinator for all significant events occurring in Western Europe. I am a qualified full cat gliding instructor and now spend all my free time on the golf course.

 

Emma Scales - is Lead for the HEE Technology Enhanced Learning Programme aimed at seeing high quality healthcare education enhanced through innovative, emerging and existing technologies and techniques. Former communications professional with more than 10 years NHS experience, Emma is passionate about the NHS and all who work tirelessly to provide care.
