South West Medical Management Course

A two day course designed for senior doctors in training and SAS grade doctors to gain the knowledge and skills to be effective clinical managers. It is specifically mapped to the generic skills and management curriculum competencies from multiple specialities, combined with an emphasis on transitioning from trainee to consultant. It will be delivered by a faculty of consultants and trainees with a wide-range of guest speakers, including Department of Health and GMC representation. Day one gives an overview of NHS Structure and organisation and the inter-relationships with various healthcare related agencies. Participants will gain an understanding of Healthcare policy, NHS finance and workforce planning. Day two explores legal processes in the event of medical error, the roles of medical education bodies, as well as life as a consultant in our future NHS and Consultant application processes. Participants will be introduced to understanding how personal preferences and behaviours can be used to drive positive change.

  • Sheona Mcleod, Director of Education and Quality at HEE
